Every puppy is examined and approved for placement by our veterinarian, receives age-appropriate vaccination and deworming, and is placed at approximately eight weeks of age when appropriate. In-person puppy visits are scheduled after the puppies have received their first vaccination which is typically 6-7 weeks of age.
Step 5: Welcome Your Puppy Home
Puppies may be picked up in Massachusetts or Florida, depending on the location of the litter. Cradle to Crown™ Mentorship Program puppies are raised in participating breeders' homes, with Royal Flush Cavaliers coordinating applications and placements.
Each family receives their puppy's health and care information, our written Purchase Agreement and five-year health guarantee, helpful puppy resources, and a carefully prepared welcome gift bag to bring home with their puppy. For families unable to pick up their puppy, delivery options may include personal delivery to a major U.S. airport or transportation by a private driver. We always meet with new families and never ship as cargo.
Step 6: Lifetime Support
Our relationship with our families continues long after puppy pickup. We remain available as a resource throughout the life of your Cavalier and provide ongoing access to Royal Flush Cavaliers educational resources, health and care information, and our growing Cavalier community.

HEALTH, VETERINARY CARE & OUR COMMITMENT TO OUR PUPPIES
CAER eye examinations are performed by a veterinary ophthalmologist. Our breeding dogs also receive annual cardiac, hip, and patella evaluations, which we maintain as part of our breeding and health records rather than filing for formal OFA certifications.
Additional evaluations are performed by our veterinarian, whose professional credentials and advanced training include Board Certification; Small Animal Medicine & Surgery; Ophthalmology and Neurology; Regenerative Medicine; Canine Testosterone Replacement; Practical Orthopedic Surgery; Arthritis and Pain Management; Companion Animal Therapy I & II; and Sonographic Imaging.
Mitral valve disease (MVD) is extremely prevalent in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and has historically been a leading cause of death within the breed. Because cardiac health and longevity are important considerations in our breeding program, we continue to monitor our dogs and provide every client with our five-year cardiac guarantee.

Our puppies are purposefully bred for health, temperament and looks. Our dogs are raised in a home environment with regular human interaction. Well-bred Cavaliers should have the affectionate, stable, and adaptable temperament for which the breed is known. We get to know each puppy as it develops, and our application process helps us understand each family’s lifestyle and preferences.
Every puppy is examined and cleared by a veterinarian before placement and comes with our five-year guarantee. Our heart coverage focuses on the first five years of life, which represents the MVD protocol window and the period associated with early-onset MVD. This five-year timeframe specifically addresses early-onset disease; MVD itself can develop at any age. Our health guarantee is part of every contract with our pet placement clients.
The guarantee is not pet insurance, and Royal Flush Cavaliers does not pay veterinary expenses. Puppies are placed as family companions, with spaying/neutering encouraged. Our commitment continues throughout the dog’s life: if an owner can no longer keep one of our Cavaliers, the dog must be returned to Royal Flush Cavaliers rather than surrendered or independently rehomed. We will evaluate and rehome the dog and refund the amount received to the original owner, less any expenses associated with its care and rehoming.

That is why testing should never be viewed as all you need. A breeder’s history, experience, long-term follow-up, and willingness to provide a long-term written health guarantee are equally important.
OFTEN IMITATED, NEVER DUPLICATED
Royal Flush Cavaliers was the first breeder in our area to introduce a five-year health guarantee, more than two decades ago. At the time, this level of extended coverage was not commonly offered. Over the years, we have watched other breeders adopt similar five-year guarantees and, in some cases, closely follow programs and practices that Royal Flush Cavaliers introduced years earlier. While imitation may be flattering, our guarantee was developed from decades of firsthand experience with Cavaliers and a commitment to standing behind the dogs we breed.

COMMON QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT OUR PUPPY PROTOCOLS
WHY ARE VISITS ONLY ALLOWED AFTER PUPPIES HAVE THEIR FIRST VACCINATION?
Our breeding program follows recommendations and protocols set forth by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) to ensure the optimal health and development of our puppies. Our puppies receive regular human interaction beginning at birth while outside exposure is carefully limited during their first weeks of life. Because young puppies are especially vulnerable to infectious disease before vaccination, in-person visits are scheduled only after the litter has received its first vaccination, typically between six and eight weeks of age. This allows us to prioritize both early socialization and the health and safety of the entire litter.
WHY ARE PUPPY PLACEMENTS VETERINARIAN APPROVED RATHER THAN BASED ON PERSONAL OPINION?
As the breeder, we establish the general age and anticipated date for a puppy to join its new family. When determining whether an individual puppy is medically ready for placement, however, we defer to our veterinarian.
Breeding experience and veterinary medicine are different areas of expertise. Every Royal Flush Cavaliers puppy receives a comprehensive veterinary examination before placement. If our veterinarian identifies a concern, recommends additional observation or treatment, or believes a puppy should remain with us longer, we follow that recommendation and delay placement when necessary.
WHAT DOES OUR VETERINARIAN EXAMINE?
The pre-placement examination evaluates the puppy's overall health, development, and physical condition, including:
Eyes and neurological responses: Ocular structures, pupils, and appropriate visual and neurological responses.
Ears, nose, throat, and oral cavity: Including bite, dental development, palate, and airway structures.
Heart and lungs: Auscultation and evaluation for abnormal findings.
Skin and coat: Including lesions, irritation, masses, and external parasites.
Lymph nodes, neck, and throat: Palpation for enlargement, swelling, or other abnormalities.
Abdomen and hydration: Evaluation of abdominal structures, hydration, and overall physical condition.
Musculoskeletal and orthopedic health: Bones, joints, spine, posture, gait, limb positioning, and movement, including evaluation for lameness, luxation, abnormal laxity, or crepitus.
Neurological and circulatory function: Appropriate responses and reflexes, including evaluation of femoral pulses.
Feet, nails, and tail: Structure, mobility, alignment, and abnormalities.
Reproductive anatomy: External genitalia and reproductive structures appropriate to the puppy's sex and age.
General health and development: Weight, temperature, body condition, parasite concerns, development, and behavioral observations.
Each puppy also receives a Body Condition Score (BCS) using the standard 1–9 scale. Families are provided with the available results of their puppy's examination and informed of any findings or recommendations made by our veterinarian.
WHY WE DEFER TO OUR VETERINARIAN
We are fortunate to work with a privately owned Massachusetts veterinary hospital and a veterinarian with extensive experience and advanced training in multiple areas of veterinary care.
Our veterinarian does not determine how we operate our breeding program or arbitrarily choose when our puppies leave. We establish the anticipated placement schedule; our veterinarian evaluates whether each individual puppy's medical findings support placement on that schedule.
If an examination identifies something that should be rechecked, monitored, treated, or simply given additional time, we follow our veterinarian's recommendation. We would rather delay a puppy's placement than send that puppy home before our veterinarian believes it is medically appropriate. No pickup date, travel arrangement, breeder preference, or buyer expectation takes priority over the health and welfare of one of our puppies.

WHY ARE PUPPY PLACEMENTS VETERINARIAN APPROVED RATHER THAN BASED ON PERSONAL OPINION?
As the breeder, we establish the general age and anticipated date for a puppy to join its new family. When determining whether an individual puppy is medically ready for placement, however, we defer to our veterinarian.
Breeding experience and veterinary medicine are different areas of expertise. Every Royal Flush Cavaliers puppy receives a comprehensive veterinary examination before placement. If our veterinarian identifies a concern, recommends additional observation or treatment, or believes a puppy should remain with us longer, we follow that recommendation and delay placement when necessary.
WHAT DOES OUR VETERINARIAN EXAMINE?
The pre-placement examination evaluates the puppy's overall health, development, and physical condition, including:
Eyes and neurological responses: Ocular structures, pupils, and appropriate visual and neurological responses.
Ears, nose, throat, and oral cavity: Including bite, dental development, palate, and airway structures.
Heart and lungs: Auscultation and evaluation for abnormal findings.
Skin and coat: Including lesions, irritation, masses, and external parasites.
Lymph nodes, neck, and throat: Palpation for enlargement, swelling, or other abnormalities.
Abdomen and hydration: Evaluation of abdominal structures, hydration, and overall physical condition.
Musculoskeletal and orthopedic health: Bones, joints, spine, posture, gait, limb positioning, and movement, including evaluation for lameness, luxation, abnormal laxity, or crepitus.
Neurological and circulatory function: Appropriate responses and reflexes, including evaluation of femoral pulses.
Feet, nails, and tail: Structure, mobility, alignment, and abnormalities.
Reproductive anatomy: External genitalia and reproductive structures appropriate to the puppy's sex and age.
General health and development: Weight, temperature, body condition, parasite concerns, development, and behavioral observations.
Each puppy also receives a Body Condition Score (BCS) using the standard 1–9 scale. Families are provided with the available results of their puppy's examination and informed of any findings or recommendations made by our veterinarian.
WHY WE DEFER TO OUR VETERINARIAN
We are fortunate to work with a privately owned Massachusetts veterinary hospital and a veterinarian with extensive experience and advanced training in multiple areas of veterinary care.
Our veterinarian does not determine how we operate our breeding program or arbitrarily choose when our puppies leave. We establish the anticipated placement schedule; our veterinarian evaluates whether each individual puppy's medical findings support placement on that schedule.
If an examination identifies something that should be rechecked, monitored, treated, or simply given additional time, we follow our veterinarian's recommendation. We would rather delay a puppy's placement than send that puppy home before our veterinarian believes it is medically appropriate. No pickup date, travel arrangement, breeder preference, or buyer expectation takes priority over the health and welfare of one of our puppies.
CAN YOU PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION ON THE HEALTH OF THE DOGS?

If a qualifying condition is identified during that period, the remedies provided in the guarantee apply.
Because cardiac health is an important concern in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, our guarantee also provides extended coverage for qualifying early-onset mitral valve disease (MVD) resulting in death within the first five years of life. Annual cardiac examinations are required to maintain this extended coverage, and veterinary records must be provided as outlined in the agreement. When appropriate, Royal Flush Cavaliers may request an evaluation or second opinion from a veterinarian or specialist we designate.
Our health guarantee is not pet insurance and does not cover veterinary expenses unless specifically approved by Royal Flush Cavaliers in writing. Owners are therefore required to maintain pet health insurance for their puppy in accordance with the Purchase Agreement and Health Guarantee. Pet insurance is intended to help owners manage routine, unexpected, and emergency veterinary expenses; it does not replace, extend, or alter the terms of our written health guarantee.
OUR GUARANTEE DOES NOT REQUIRE THE PURCHASE OF BREEDER-SELECTED PRODUCTS
The Cavalier Five-Year™ Health Guarantee is not conditioned upon purchasing specific foods, supplements, vitamins, or other products from Royal Flush Cavaliers or through affiliate links. Companies such as Life's Abundance, NuVet and other companies offer breeder affiliate programs through which participating breeders receive commissions from product purchases. Some breeders also make continued health-guarantee coverage dependent upon the purchase or continued use of particular products.

AKC registration applications, registration certificates, pedigrees, or other registration documents are not provided with companion puppy purchases. Anyone interested in a Cavalier for breeding or showing must disclose that intention before placing a deposit or entering into a purchase agreement, as separate terms and agreements apply. Registration or breeding rights cannot be added after a puppy has been purchased as a companion.

Through this program, select participants may receive a Cavalier puppy at no purchase cost in exchange for an agreed commitment to participate in appropriate AKC conformation, obedience, agility, or other approved events. Royal Flush Cavaliers retains shared ownership during the program period, with full ownership transferring to the participant upon successful completion of the agreement.

CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL HISTORY
THE CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL & ENGLISH TOY SPANIEL
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the English Toy Spaniel—known as the King Charles Spaniel in the United Kingdom—are two distinct breeds with a shared history. The small companion spaniels associated with King Charles II in the 17th century had longer muzzles than the shorter-faced toy spaniels that became fashionable in later generations.
In 1926, American Roswell Eldridge offered prize money at the Crufts Dog Show for breeders who could recreate the longer-nosed, old-type spaniels depicted in historic paintings from the time of King Charles II. His challenge helped inspire the development of the modern Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Ann's Son, born in 1928, became an important early example of the emerging breed and was used as a model in establishing its early standard.

Although the two breeds share the same four recognized colors: Blenheim, Tricolor, Ruby, and Black & Tan, they are registered and recognized as separate breeds. One of the most noticeable differences is the head and muzzle. English Toy Spaniels have a much shorter muzzle and more domed head, while Cavaliers have a longer muzzle and a different overall head shape and expression.
Size also differs. The English Toy Spaniel breed standard calls for a weight of approximately 8 to 14 pounds, while the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel standard calls for approximately 13 to 18 pounds.
This distinction is particularly important when encountering terms such as “Toy Cavalier,” “Mini Cavalier,” or “Teacup Cavalier.” These are not separate recognized varieties of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. A smaller Cavalier does not become an English Toy Spaniel, and an English Toy Spaniel should not be represented as a miniature version of a Cavalier. They are two separate breeds with their own breed standards and histories.
